How to convert a ducted range hood to a ductless unit? For optimal performance, any range hood should be installed using a duct. The ductless option is designed to be used only in situations where running a duct is not possible. In a ductless application, you will have to use one set of carbon (charcoal) filters. This filters will clean the air from various odors and releases the cleaned air back into your kitchen through the vent holes that are located at the top of the chimney. There are several disadvantages with using a ductless application: 1. In a ductless application, the overall performance is decreased by an average of 30%; 2. You will be committed to replacing the carbon filters every 4-6 months. 3. All of the heat and humidity producing during cooking will be released back into your kitchen. 4. Additional noise is generated when using the carbon filter. If your range hood is installed in a ductless application, it is very important to keep the vent holes that are located at the top of the chimney exposed. If these vent holes are not exposed, there will be nowhere for the air to move and the unit will not function correctly. Following range hoods can be converted to ductless (ventless) re-circulating range hoods : K-1003, K1005, K-1006, K-1006M, K-1007C, K-1007CA, K-1007R,K1008 (island), K-1009CA, K-1009R, K1009RA, K-1010(island), K-1010M(island), K-1011, K-1012, K1013(island), K-1022, K-1022A.
For a ducless unit, you have to buy one set of the following carbon (charcoal) filters separately after you have chosen a hood from above hoods
